Emily Foster, Columbus, OH -- emilyfoster@sbcglobal.net
[NOTE by Nova:  This family is listed on pages 372-373 of the ESTEP, Thomas Sr. ... book by Vidal, et al.  Sarah was listed as daughter of James ESTEP and Ann Maria ______ of Columbiana Co., OH.  (Ann Maria was also listed as a "Mary.")  Sarah may have been born circa 1783-1784 or a bit later and married John SHELL in 1818.  James ESTEP was son of William ESTEP and Sarah ______ of Frederick Co., MD and Huntingdon Co., PA (p. 365).  Hope this helps give you a start.]

I am looking for the father of Samuel W. ESTEP (30 Mar 1884 - ?) who married Sarah A. BRINKLEY (b. 15 Sep 1845).  Was it James M. ESTEP who married Sarah A. ESTEP?  James had a son named Samuel W., but don't know the child's birth date.  If this is his son, I have Samuel W.'s son and children.  This research is for my mother-in-law who I think was Samuel W.'s granddaughter.  She is 90 yrs. old and the only living child of Samuel Lorenza ESTEP (20 May 1876 - 4 Feb. 1969) who married Amanda Caldonia MOBBS (13 Sep 1879 Hazen, AR - 1936 Greenbrier, AR).  According to the newspaper article, there were 1000 people at her funeral.
Additional info by Mr. Bowie:  There are two cemeteries in Faulkner Co., AR that have ESTEP graves.  The first one is the Estep Family Cemetery in Greenbrier, AR on the south side of town and east side of the highway.  Samuel W. ESTEP, his wife Sarah A. (BRINKLEY) ESTEP, his son Samuel Lorenza ESTEP and his wife Amanda Caldonia (MOBBS) ESTEP with their son known to the family as "Little Lee" are buried there.  Samuel Lorenza's son Harrison is buried beside his wife Dorthy (PALMER) ESTEP at Marcus Hill Cemetery at Enola, AR.  His younger son Sammy Eugene ESTEP is buried at Russell, AR where his widow still lives at the age of 92+.

Looking for information on Samson / Sampson ESTEP who would be my great- great- grandfather.  He is supposed to be buried in London, Laurel Co., KY.  Does anyone have a listing of his children?  My grandfather Joseph, Sampson's son, was born in Cincinatti, OH around the 1850s to early 1860s then raised in Beattyville, KY.  I have not come across the other brothers and sisters.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[NOTE:  The ESTEP, Thomas Sr. ... book has Sampson ESTEP on page 180.  The death certificate has Sampson born 2 Oct 1831 in TN and died 3 Jun 1914 in Bush, Laurel Co., KY with burial at Lake, KY.  His father was Joe E. ESTEP and mother unknown.  The informant was his last wife, Molly SMITH, who he married in 1910.  Molly was born c1888 and they had one daughter, born 1 Mar 1912.  Census says that Sampson was born c1836.  He was the son of Joseph ESTEP and Jane HAMMOND(S) and lived in Scott Co., VA, Clay Co., KY, and Perry Co., KY.  He served in the Union Army during the Civil War.  The 1850 and 1860 censuses should be checked for Sampson and his family.]

I have traced backwards thru my ancestors, to John ESTOP b. before 1553 in Shropshire, England, had a son Edmund b. 1573, and married Margery PODMORE.  I was always told that I am of German descent.  Is it possible that the above ancestors really migrated from Germany to England?  The first ancestor I have discovered in the new world, Richard ESTEP b. 1668.  His father was (above) John.  John's father was Edmund.  At the time of immigration, was England the principal port of departure?  I would like to continue the search for ancestors in Germany, any ideas where to look?  Thank you for help.

Ella CLEVENGER married John Wesley ESTEP.  Do you have any more information on her?  I believe she may have been my grandfather Jacob Lewis CLEVENGER's sister.  His father's name was John Albert, however, I do believe the 1880 IN census lists him as Albert with wife Savilla, son Jacob L. age 5 and two daughters, Ella and Edith.  Any information would help as I seem to have lost my roots.  I do have information from the family Bible.  Thanks!
